  • News from Fi (Dr Fiona Cresswell) working at Makunduchi Hospital for 6 months:

" This month we did our first blood transfusion in Makunduchi.

This is a real step forward and should hopefully reduce death from postpartum haemorrhage and allow a greater range of surgery to take place on site.

The lady pictured after her transfusion is 5 months pregnant and came to the hospital with dizziness and a staggeringly low Haemoglobin level of 2g/dl - it should normally be over 11g/dl.

Having received 4 units of blood she is feeling a lot better and I should imagine her baby is too!
